Most of the sites opened in the first phase were selected based on community need and prioritizing areas with high levels of food insecurity. Residents who have the ability and means are asked to purchase or boil their own water so that limited supplies at distribution sites can go to those who need it most. Residents that are not able to get to any of these distribution sites are asked to call 3-1-1.
At the end of Sunday, Feb. 6, approximately 7,220 cases of water were distributed to the community at the various water distribution sites. This number does not include water distributed by various partners involved in the Austin/Travis County emergency response. In addition, more than 6,000 gallons of potable water from Austin Water Utility tanker trucks have been distributed.
During the Boil Water Notice residents are reminded to boil water for two minutes before drinking or using it to cook.
Residents are reminded to recycle all single-use plastic bottles and jugs instead of throwing them in the trash.
