Austin Launches Youth Art Contest Celebrating Digital Inclusion

Top Prize is $400

The City of Austin is sponsoring its third annual Digital Inclusion Youth Art Contest. It’s open to Austin students ages 10 through 18 to show us how they see a world where everyone can harness the power of a fast internet connection.

“We want to draw attention to the fact that there are still too many families and residents without the ability to access and afford high-speed internet,” said Rondella Hawkins, the City of Austin’s Telecommunications and Regulatory Affairs Officer. “We asking Austin students to paint a picture of what the future, the near future we hope, looks like with everyone having the same digital tools to access and use a high-speed internet connection for work or fun.”

The top three entries win a monetary prize and can have their art work shown in City spaces. Submitted artwork will be used in digital inclusion marketing throughout the year. It may be hosted in various gallery spaces, either digitally or physically at City locations.

The winning entries will receive:
1st Place: $400
2nd Place: $200
3rd Place: $100

The 2022 digital inclusion art contest deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 11:59 p.m. There are additional details available at Digital Inclusion Art Competition (airtable.com).

The City of Austin celebrated Digital Inclusion Week recently with multiple events hosted by the Digital Empowerment Community of Austin. The goal was to raise awareness about digital inequities, keep it in the spotlight and discuss next steps to close the digital divide.
