| The Austin Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to the unveiling of the Asian American Resource Center's future performing arts center design on Thursday, November 17. The schematic design drawings, developed through input from community engagements earlier this year, will be available to view. A presentation by the project team will begin at 7 p.m for those attending in person at the AARC and virtually on Zoom. Phase 2 Community Meeting Thursday, November 17, 2022 Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Presentation at 7 p.m. Asian American Resource Center 8401 Cameron Rd., Austin, TX 78754 Children's activities will be available. Zoom Registration: begins at 7 p.m. Interpreters for Mandarin, Vietnamese, Burmese (Myanmar), and Korean will be available on Zoom. For additional language requests, please call Austin 3-1-1. AARC Phase 2 Description This project focuses on expanding the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) as prescribed in the Council-approved AARC Facility Expansion Plan from 2019 (2019 Plan). The project seeks to increase programmatic possibilities for the popular AARC through the addition of a theater, multi-use space, gallery, and associated programming and parking. In developing the design of the performing arts center, the project team relied on the 2019 plan as well as additional community input from the community engagement phase which began in late 2021. More information on Project Webpage. AARC Background The Asian American Resource Center’s mission is to create a space of belonging and healing for Asian American communities in Austin and beyond. This is accomplished through community collaborations and partnerships; providing rental space; organizing cultural, educational and health wellness programs; and curating art and historical exhibitions.
