Members of the public will have an opportunity to provide their vision for projects that re-stitch East and West Austin over I-35 at an Open House meeting on Saturday, Aug. 27.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing to widen and lower portions of I-35 through Central Austin. Working alongside the freeway project, Our Future 35 is an initiative to build new city infrastructure and public spaces.

Those new spaces proposed to cover the highway are called caps, or large decks, and stitches, or widened bridges.

At the open house, community members will have a chance to hear from TxDOT and the City of Austin staff, then participate in interactive sessions exploring potential themes and goals for the projects.

The meeting will be held at Native Hostel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 807 E. Fourth St., Austin. The best ways to get there include:
  • CapMetro: MetroBus routes 4 and 17 and the MetroRail Red Line all have stops near the venue. CapMetro's trip planner can help you find the best route.
  • MetroBike: Nearby stations to drop off your MetroBike are available at the intersection of Fourth and Sabine streets and the intersection of East Sixth and Medina streets.
You can RSVP for the free event here. More information on future events will be shared on Our Future 35's Twitter and Facebook pages.
