Council Member Ellis Statement on Proposed Council Member Salary Increase

Thurs. Aug. 18, 2022

Council Member Paige Ellis Statement:

“I will vote no to increasing Council Member salariesas our priorities need to stay focused on working people right now. That includes recruitment and retention of city employees who will ensure that our parks are well-maintained, our pools are safe, and our curbside pickup services are timely.

For the FY 22-23 City Budget, I have brought amendments and riders that would strengthen the City's workforce by:

  • Maintaining the FY22 PARD Summer Employee Recruitment and Retention Bonus Program
  • Restoring Returning Employees’ Service Time for Vacation Leave and Service Incentive Pay Calculations
  • Moving Up the Service Incentive Pay Eligibility Threshold
  • Providing City Employees a Third Personal Holiday

In addition, I have brought amendments and riders that would:

  • Preserve Reproductive Health Funding
  • Invest in Nature Play
  • Modernize PARD Facility Safety and Security

I look forward to passing a FY23 Budget that works for Southwest Austin and reduces my constituents' City tax bills."
