The public is invited to join local musicians Andrea Magee and Kevin Russell of Shinyribs at the launch of original songs and music videos to highlight the importance of adhering to leash laws and leashing your dogs on Saturday, February 4, noon to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at the beautiful lakeside Fiesta Gardens, 2101 Jesse E. Segovia St.
The event will include adoptable animals from Austin Animal Center, free desserts from Street Sweets, leash giveaways, and customized pet tags. Park Rangers will be in attendance representing the Bark Rangers program.
The music videos are part of a leash awareness campaign spearheaded by Austin Animal Center, Austin Parks and Recreation Department, Animal Advisory Commission, Austin Parks and Recreation Board, Austin Parks Foundation, and The Trail Foundation.
Kevin Russell’s off-leash video earned the Professional Choice Wagsies Award, selected by animal welfare marketing professionals and presented by the Association for Animal Welfare Advancement & Hill’s Nutrition.
Off-leash dogs present safety risks to humans, other dogs, and wildlife. Keeping your dog on a leash allows for proper interactions with others and lessens your dog’s chance of being exposed to diseases like parvo or distemper. For more information, visit www.austintexas.gov/
About Kevin Russell, Shinyribs
Shinyribs defies genres as a sonic melting pot of Texas blues, New Orleans R&B funk, horn-driven Memphis soul, country twang, border music, big band swing, and roots-rock. The Austin-based supergroup is led by Kevin Russell, the charismatic front man with colorful suits and extravagant shoes who continuously swaps out an electric guitar for a ukulele and never falls short of creating a cinematic experience with on-stage antics that often include him donning a light-up cloak or leading a conga line through the crowd. About Andrea Magee
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Magee got an early start playing in her family band. The traditional Irish folk songs inspired her writing style, anchored by an emotional pulse and tribal rhythm. Moving to the United States in 2016 with British music collaborator Ben Jones, they formed powerhouse musical duo Beat Root Revival. While touring globally with the likes of Jeff Bridges, Brian Wilson, Jonathan Jackson, and Brian Setzer, Andrea’s sound and artistic voice were honed to perfection. Now calling Austin, Texas, home, her solo sound is taking center stage. For more information, visit https://andreamageemusic.com/.
