AdCouncil Releases “Real Deal on Fentanyl” Website to Save Lives

AdCouncil recently released an advertising campaign called the Real Deal on Fentanyl to educate 13-to-24-year-olds about fentanyl – an artificially produced drug that is contributing to the US opioid epidemic. In the U.S., deaths from drug overdoses in the past two years have increased by 52%, with 108,000 deaths in 2021 alone. Fentanyl has been the greatest contributor to these deaths. The drug is much stronger than heroin and morphine.

Fentanyl can be mixed with other drugs to make them more potent, increasing the risk of overdose and death. Drug dealers also will illegally manufacture pills for sale that contain fentanyl. In Travis County, fentanyl was involved in 50% of the 200 opioid deaths reported in the first half of 2022.

The Real Deal on Fentanyl website provides a variety of helpful resources for young people to stay safe. Resources include information on naloxone – a life-saving drug to be administered in the event of a fentanyl overdose – hard facts about the drug, educational videos and more.
