District 2 Austin City Councilwoman, Vanessa Fuentes, has been appointed as Vice Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2023 Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee Federal Advocacy Committee. This marks NLC’s first leadership appointment from Austin in 15 years since Jennifer Kim’s appointment as Secretary of the Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials. Councilwoman Fuentes joins her colleague, Councilmember Leslie Pool, who was appointed to a separate committee. Councilwoman Fuentes was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on roads, bridges, transit, and more. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington, at the annual NLC City Summit. “With Austin growing faster than ever before, we must prioritize our transit projects in an efficient, accessible, and equitable manner,” said Councilwoman Fuentes. “The ability to Vice-Chair this committee will allow our city to set the stage and implement an innovative transit model that other cities can aspire towards.” As committee vice chair, Councilwoman Fuentes will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s municipalities before Congress, with the administration, and at home. “NLC’s federal advocacy committees are a key tool for gathering insights directly from the communities that our members serve,” said NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington. “I am excited to have Councilwoman Fuentes serve on Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee and look forward to working with her to ensure every city, town and village in this nation has the resources they need to thrive.” ### This year’s Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee will be led by Chair Kate Kruller, Councilmember, Tukwila, Washington; Vice Chair Vanessa Fuentes, City Councilwoman, Austin, Texas; and Vice Chair Dan Kealey, City Councilman, Burnsville, Minnesota.
