Austin City Council Member Leslie Pool was Appointed Vice Chair of the National League of Cities Energy, Environment & Natural Resource Committee

Austin City Council Member Leslie Pool from District 7 has been appointed to Vice Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2023 Energy, Environment & Natural Resource Committee federal advocacy committee. The Council Member was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities for sustainability-related issues such as water infrastructure and water quality, air quality, energy, climate change, solid and hazardous waste management, local food systems, and public lands.

“It is an honor to serve a sixth consecutive year on the NLC’s Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee. This opportunity gives me the ability to continue our fight against the climate crisis we are in and the inequities that come with it,” said Council Member Pool.

The City of Austin said Pool will advocate on behalf of America's municipalities before Congress, particularly around building sustainable and resilient infrastructure.

“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are a key tool for gathering insights directly from the communities that our members serve,” said NLC President Mayor Victoria Woodards of Tacoma, Washington. “I am excited to have Council Member Pool serve on the Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee and look forward to working with her to ensure every city, town, and village in this nation has the resources they need to thrive.”

This year’s Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee will be led by Chair Cindy Dyballa, Council Member Takoma Park, MD; Vice Chair Leslie Pool, Council Member, City of Austin, TX; and Vice Chair Brian Jones, Council Member, City of Union, GA.
