Oakwood Cemetery Chapel presents To Fika, a digital exhibit tied to events about Swedish cultural heritage in Austin, Texas. The exhibit tells the history of hundreds of people who emigrated from Sweden to Austin from the 1840s until about 1930.

Celebrate Swedish culture in person at the MidSummer Festival on Saturday, June 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Old Bakery & Emporium, 1006 Congress Avenue. This free, family-friendly event is sponsored by the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel and the Old Bakery and Emporium.

Fika is both a Swedish state of mind and a traditional Swedish ritual. You take a moment to slow down and appreciate the good things in life. It is a coffee and snack break with friends and colleagues. It is essential to fika every day.

The Swedish Hill Neighborhood is adjacent to Oakwood Cemetery. Hundreds of Swedes and their descendants now rest for eternity just steps from where they originally built homes, worked, and attended schools and churches.

The Old Bakery and Emporium, just south of the Texas Capitol building, was completed in 1876 by Charles Lundberg, a Swedish immigrant.
