The National Weather Center’s forecast warns of record temperatures this weekend with highs up to 105 degrees. Please follow heat safety tips for wildfire, pets, children and elderly. “We are working with staff and community partners to prepare for record temperatures this weekend,” said Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department Director, Juan Ortiz. “Our priority is to ensure our most vulnerable populations have access to relief from the heat. Many Austin Public Library locations and Austin Recreation and Senior Centers are available for use as a cooling center during normal business hours (not for overnight services). To help find a location in your neighborhood check out this Austin-Travis County map of libraries and recreation centers. Please verify hours before arriving at a location. Currently, only service animals are permissible at these locations.
