New Montopolis Recreation and Community Center Reaches Completion

Joint project by Austin Public Works, Parks and Recreation and Austin Public Health
The newly redeveloped Montopolis Recreation and Community Center recently reached substantial completion, marking a significant milestone for the Southeast Austin community. Austin voters approved funding for the facility in 2012. Following extensive input from the community, construction of the facility broke ground in 2018 finishing on-time and on-budget.

This new facility replaces the former recreation and community center, which served the community for more than four decades. The prior facilty was in poor condition and could no longer meet the needs of a growing community. The new facilty provides 33,000 square feet of new space, recreational uses, public health services, educational programming areas, a commercial kitchen and more. More information is available on the project webpage

Austin Public Works managed the construction delivery of the project, and the building is jointly operated by Parks and Recreation Department and Austin Public Health. Design for the new facility was developed with extensive input from the Montopolis community beginning in 2014.

For the health and safety of residents, the new building is not yet open for public use. However, a video premiere showcasing the project is available which features interviews with project staff, community members and City officials.

We are offering virtual interviews by request to speak to the delivery of this project, the recreational uses, and the services that will be provided to the community.
