 The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department presents the Second Annual MidSummer Festival on Saturday, June 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 pm. The festival will take place indoors and outside the Old Bakery and Emporium, 1006 Congress Ave. The MidSummer festival is free to attend and provides family-friendly fun for all ages. RSVP here. Mira Dickey and Ian Files will perform live Scandinavian folk music. The Norrsken Three will perform traditional and contemporary Swedish and Scandinavian songs. Dick Peterson will provide a live demonstration of Swedish flat-plane wood carving. The festival will also feature Swedish charms by Joy Emshoff, traditional Swedish treats from Austin’s own Fika Table, a flower crown-making station for all, a traditional Swedish maypole, and an Austin Swedish tradition of Dala horse piñatas. About MidSummer Festival The Old Bakery and Emporium was built in 1876 by Swedish immigrant Charles Lundberg. Midsummer, or Midsommar, is a traditional Swedish holiday celebrating the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. The Old Bakery and Emporium hosts Midsummer as a tribute to the building’s Swedish-American heritage. |
