City Unveils Spanish Edition of Neighborhood Preparedness Guide

Expansion of Language Access resources continues

Austin’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management released the Spanish edition of the Neighborhood Preparedness Guide. The guide is a resource to help individuals, families and neighborhoods make an emergency plan. Making a plan is one of the four steps to emergency preparedness.

“We are committed to continuing to improve access to emergency information,” said Ken Snipes, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. “The Spanish edition of the Neighborhood Preparedness Guide will allow more people in our community to access life-saving emergency preparedness resources.”

Download the Emergency Preparedness Guide in Spanish or English.  For a physical copy, stop by one of HSEM’s Emergency Preparedness Pop-Up Events at a public library. Remaining Pop Up events this year are on October 18 and November 15.

HSEM partnered with Watershed Protection Department, Office of Sustainability, Go! Austin / Vamos! Austin (GAVA), and the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin to develop the Neighborhood Preparedness Guide. The guide was inspired by the Dove Springs Neighborhood Guide pilot project. Several other City of Austin departments and emergency management offices from across the nation contributed content to the guide.
